Veteran actor and beloved comedian Govardhan Asrani, popularly known as Asrani, passed away on Monday at the age of 84 after a prolonged illness. His passing has left a profound void in the Hindi film industry, where his iconic roles and impeccable comic timing won hearts for decades. Asrani’s career spanned over fifty years, with appearances in more than 350 films, making him one of the most cherished faces of Indian cinema. Fans and colleagues alike mourn the loss of a legendary entertainer who brought joy to countless audiences.
In an emotional turn, a moving video has emerged showing Asrani dancing joyfully at an event just ten days before his death. Singer Pinky Maidasani shared the video on Instagram, capturing the actor standing with assistance initially, and later breaking into dance to Sindhi tunes. The clip highlights Asrani’s enduring spirit and love for life, even in his final days. Fans flooded the comment section with tributes, calling him a “true legend” and praising his energy and passion for performing.
Asrani’s journey in cinema is marked by unforgettable performances, including his iconic role as the jail warden in the 1975 classic Sholay. Beyond Sholay, he appeared in films like Bhool Bhulaiyaa, Dhamaal, Bunty Aur Babli 2, R… Rajkumar, All The Best, and Welcome. His comic timing, expressive face, and versatility made him a favorite across generations. Even in recent years, Asrani continued to bring laughter to audiences, proving that his talent and energy were undiminished despite his age.
Asrani’s passing was confirmed by his manager, Babubhai Thiba, who said, “Asrani passed away today at 3 PM at Arogya Nidhi Hospital, Juhu. He is survived by his wife, sister, and nephew.” The veteran actor’s last rites were performed at Santacruz Crematorium in Mumbai. The film fraternity and fans across India have expressed grief and remembered him for his contribution to cinema and his ability to make people smile.
