ATRC Launches STEM Program for 5,391 Students in Abu Dhabi

Post by : Badri Ariffin

The Advanced Technology Research Council (ATRC) successfully initiated its first ATRC School Program, aimed at inspiring young minds to become future innovators and leaders in science and technology. This comprehensive year-long program aligns with Abu Dhabi's ambition to establish an AI-driven economy, aspiring to create the world’s first fully AI-integrated government by 2027.

Formulated alongside the researchers from ATRC's applied research wing, the Technology Innovation Institute (TII), the initiative brought cutting-edge technology education directly to the forefront of classrooms throughout Abu Dhabi. The program was offered in both English and Arabic, combining theoretical learning with engaging hands-on activities, expert-led workshops, and student-focused projects.

Students explored nine advanced technology domains, including autonomous robotics, AI and digital science, secure systems, renewable energy, propulsion technology, directed energy, cryptography, quantum innovations, and advanced materials. Through direct engagement with industry scientists and researchers, participants gained practical experience with emerging technologies and insights into career pathways in these sectors.

Since the program’s commencement at the start of the 2025/26 academic year, it has reached a total of 5,391 students across 84 public and private middle and high schools in Abu Dhabi. Endorsed by the UAE Ministry of Education and the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge, the initiative marks a notable stride in STEM education.

A noteworthy participation of 209 teachers, who underwent specialized training, was also recorded, heightening student exposure to contemporary scientific research, thus making this program one of Abu Dhabi's most extensive research-integrated STEM educational offerings.

ATRC Aims to Cultivate Future STEM Leaders

His Excellency Abdulaziz Al Dosari, Executive Director of the ATRC, remarked: “The ATRC School Program demonstrates the potential of immersing students in advanced science and technology and linking them with pioneers in research. We take pride in engaging over 5,000 students in Abu Dhabi and fostering a new generation of STEM talent crucial for enhancing our R&D capabilities and crafting solutions of local and global significance.”

Students Address Real-World Problems with Technology

Throughout the academic year, students participated in quizzes, practical activities, and created projects targeting real-world issues within the nine technology domains.

The initiative resulted in 1,137 project submissions, showcasing remarkable student involvement, creativity, and technical understanding.

Dr. Mae AlMansoori, Director of the R&D Talent Enablement Program at ATRC, stated: “Our goal was straightforward: provide young people with direct insight into the science and technologies that shape our future. I am incredibly proud of the outcomes from this inaugural year. Witnessing students tackle intricate scientific challenges has left a significant impact on every educator and researcher involved, and we eagerly anticipate how these students will translate their potential into groundbreaking discoveries.”

Graduation Ceremony Honors 159 Students in Abu Dhabi

The 2025/26 ATRC School Program concluded with a graduation ceremony in Abu Dhabi, where 159 students were acknowledged for their exceptional project submissions across the nine technology areas.

ATRC also recognized teachers for their unwavering commitment to fostering innovation and a scientific mindset in their students.

Recognized among the top-performing institutions were Applied Technology School - AQB, Applied Technology School - Baniyas, and Al Ain Juniors School, based on student engagement and project contributions.

Completing the first ATRC School Program signifies a pivotal advancement in strengthening STEM education in Abu Dhabi, equipping future researchers, innovators, and technology specialists.
