Bangkok Pub Fire Kills 27, Dozens Hurt After Midnight Blaze

Bangkok Pub Fire Kills 27, Dozens Hurt After Midnight Blaze

Post by : Badri Ariffin

A devastating fire swept through a pub in Bangkok during the early hours of Monday, killing at least 27 people and injuring dozens more, according to Thai officials. The blaze spread rapidly through the venue, trapping many people inside before firefighters managed to bring the situation under control.

The fire broke out shortly after midnight at the Na Ladprao pub in northern Bangkok, triggering a large-scale emergency response. Rescue teams and firefighters rushed to the scene after receiving reports of the incident.

Many Victims Hospitalised, Several in Critical Condition

Authorities said 63 people were injured in the fire. Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt confirmed that 22 of the injured remain in critical condition and are receiving treatment at nearby hospitals.

Videos recorded by first responders showed flames pouring out from the entrance of the building while frightened customers rushed to escape. Thick black smoke quickly filled the pub, making it difficult for many people to find a safe exit.

Smoke From Circuit Breaker Reportedly Seen Before Explosion

Thailand Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul visited the scene after the incident and confirmed that at least 27 people had lost their lives.

Speaking to reporters, the Prime Minister said musicians performing at the venue noticed smoke coming from a circuit breaker near the stage shortly before the electricity suddenly failed. According to the performers, a loud explosion followed the power outage, and flames quickly spread throughout the building.

Toxic Smoke Filled the Venue Within Minutes

Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt said the fire rapidly spread to decorative materials attached to the ceiling. The burning materials produced thick and toxic smoke, which filled the pub within minutes and trapped many of the people inside.

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said many of the victims were discovered near the restrooms at the rear of the building, suggesting they had been trying to escape the smoke and flames. He added that most of the deaths were caused by smoke inhalation rather than burn injuries.

Firefighters Controlled Blaze in Around 30 Minutes

Firefighters battled the intense blaze for approximately 30 minutes before bringing it under control.

Images from the scene later showed severe damage inside the pub, including burnt furniture, blackened walls and widespread destruction caused by the fire.

Investigation Underway Into Cause of Fire

Thai authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire. Officials are examining the circumstances surrounding the reported smoke from the circuit breaker and the explosion that witnesses described before the flames spread.

No official conclusion regarding the cause of the fire has been announced.

Thailand Has Experienced Similar Deadly Fires

The latest incident is among Thailand's deadliest entertainment venue fires in recent years.

In 2022, a fire at a music pub in eastern Thailand killed 14 people and injured dozens of others.

An even deadlier tragedy occurred on New Year's Day in 2009, when a fire at Bangkok's Santika nightclub claimed 66 lives and injured more than 200 people. Investigators later said that blaze was believed to have been caused by an indoor fireworks display.
