Ronald Araujo, the defender for Barcelona, did not feature in the squad for Saturday's 3-1 La Liga victory against Alaves. Manager Hansi Flick noted that a “stomach virus” was responsible for his absence.
Araujo last played during the Champions League clash against Chelsea, where he picked up a second yellow card after a rough tackle on Cucurella just before the halftime break.
As reported by The Athletic, Barcelona’s sporting director Deco met with Araujo’s representatives on Monday, allowing the 28-year-old to step back from the game for a while. The club has shown unwavering support for Araujo during this challenging time, emphasizing the importance of respecting his privacy.
Flick commented on the issue, stating, “This is a personal matter, and I prefer not to elaborate further. I would appreciate it if you could respect this situation.” There was no immediate response from Barcelona after normal business hours.
As they sit at the top of the La Liga standings, Barcelona will face fourth-placed Atletico Madrid at Camp Nou on Tuesday. The club is hopeful for a strong showing in Araujo's absence as they strive to keep their leading position in the league.
