Machang MP Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal has raised concerns over internal issues in Bersatu following his suspension and the sacking of Tasek Gelugor MP Wan Saiful Wan Jan. Both lawmakers revealed that they received letters from the party’s disciplinary board late last night, signaling growing tensions within the party.
At a press conference in Parliament, Wan Fayhsal accused the disciplinary board of bias and “selective efficiency,” pointing out that two of its four members had familial or professional connections with senior Bersatu leaders. He insisted that the members should have recused themselves to ensure a fair process.
He also criticized the absence of their accusers during the hearings, claiming that the proceedings were unfair. Wan Fayhsal compared this suspension to his earlier six-month suspension from the Dewan Rakyat, calling the experience “deja vu” and questioning the party’s approach to justice.
“Something concerning is happening in our party. Yesterday, the opposition leader’s debate speech was well received, but today, this news undermines that momentum,” he said. Despite the disciplinary actions, both Wan Fayhsal and Wan Saiful stated they remain loyal to Bersatu and Perikatan Nasional.
Wan Saiful added that they would carefully review the board’s decision before deciding whether to appeal, emphasizing their commitment to truth. He noted, “Some people are using their power and positions to pressure us, but we will follow the proper process.”
The lawmakers criticized the speed of the investigation, which was completed in less than a week. Wan Saiful also highlighted a complaint he had filed against party secretary-general Azmin Ali, questioning whether the board’s efficiency would be applied consistently.
Following his sacking, Wan Saiful is officially considered an independent MP, pending any potential appeal. Both MPs stressed that Bersatu should not be controlled by any individual for personal or familial gain.
