The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) announced the temporary suspension of 1,256 kitchens providing meals for the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program in eastern Indonesia starting April 1, 2026. The kitchens, known as Nutritional Fulfilment Service Units (SPPGs), failed to register for Hygiene and Sanitation Fitness Certificates (SLHS) or install wastewater treatment plants (IPAL), both mandatory for operation.
BGN Region III Monitoring and Supervision Director Rudi Setiawan emphasized the importance of food safety and proper waste management to protect the health of program beneficiaries. He confirmed that kitchens meeting the required standards could resume operations after a verification process.
BGN Deputy Head for Public Communication and Investigation, Nanik Sudaryati Deyang, warned of strict sanctions, including suspension without incentives, for partners inflating raw material prices or pressuring kitchen heads. The free meal budget remains fixed at Rp8,000–Rp10,000 (US$0.47–US$0.59) per portion to ensure affordability and program integrity.
The agency continues its monitoring and calls for compliance to uphold the goals of the nationwide nutritional initiative.
