52 Students Celebrate Graduation at Sharjah Performing Arts Academy

On a vibrant Sunday morning, His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, graced the graduation ceremony of the Sharjah Performing Arts Academy (SPAA) at the University of the Art Sharjah. The event marked the notable graduation of the Class of 2026 at the university theatre.

With a total of 52 students completing diverse creative and performing arts programs, this event underscores Sharjah’s dedication to fostering arts education and cultural advancement.

Warm Reception for the Ruler

His Highness was greeted upon arrival by Her Highness Sheikha Hoor bint Sultan Al Qasimi, President of the University of the Art Sharjah, along with other esteemed members, including Sheikha Nawar bint Ahmed Al Qasimi, Director of the Sharjah Art Foundation.

Musical Prelude by Students

The ceremony commenced with the UAE national anthem followed by an impressive musical performance by the students, a vivid display of their artistic training and talents.

Featuring an array of instruments such as the flute, violin, and piano, the presentation highlighted the extensive academic and practical learning achieved at the academy.

Acknowledgments from Sheikha Hoor Al Qasimi

In her address, Sheikha Hoor expressed immense pride for the graduating class, noting that they are equipped to embark on their professional journeys after years of diligent effort.

Dr. Peter Barlow, Director of the academy, followed with insights on the institution's remarkable growth and achievements.

He pointed out how SPAA has quickly established itself as a leading arts institution, a success rooted in the visionary leadership of Sharjah’s Ruler.

Key milestones include:

  • Launching pioneering performing arts programs unique to the UAE.

  • Producing the first cohort of Master of Fine Arts graduates.

  • Inaugurating the College of Music.

  • Introducing courses on Arabic music and Western classical traditions.

  • Hosting international events to bolster Sharjah’s artistic standing globally.

He noted that the formation of the University of the Art Sharjah signals a pivotal moment for specialized arts education.

Inspiration from Yasmina El Abd

Actress Yasmina El Abd, the guest of honor, conveyed her congratulations to the new graduates. She praised their creativity and perseverance, stressing the life skills gained through the arts.

Yasmina elaborated on the discipline and dedication required for success in the arts, urging graduates to pursue their dreams fearlessly and embrace the opportunities ahead.

She affirmed the essential role of artists in sharing stories, preserving culture, and fostering positive societal change.

The Class of 2026 encompassed 52 graduates across various programs, including:

  • 4 graduates from the Master of Fine Arts in Theatre and Live Performance.

  • 12 graduates from the Bachelor of Arts in Acting.

  • 9 graduates from the Bachelor of Arts in Musical Theatre.

  • 15 graduates from the Bachelor of Arts in Production Arts.

  • 12 graduates from the Trinity Diploma Level 6 in Professional Dance.

This graduation ceremony not only highlighted individual achievements but also emphasized Sharjah’s continuous dedication to fostering artistic talent and enhancing its cultural landscape.
