Chase Koepka, the American golfer, is gearing up for his comeback to the LIV Golf League, looking to secure his spot through the upcoming Promotions event in January. After enduring two challenging years following shoulder surgery, the 31-year-old is finally free from injury and eager to return to the game.
Expressing his enthusiasm, Koepka noted the significance of the Florida venue as it marks a homecoming for him. “The Promotions event being in Florida is fantastic for me; I haven't been part of it for the last two years due to injury, so it's a great opportunity. I believe good golf will take care of itself,” Koepka shared.
Relegated from the LIV Golf League in 2023, Koepka's surgery left him sidelined for more than a year. His road to recovery was lengthy and arduous, which meant he couldn't compete again until January 2024. As he begins a new chapter in his career, overcoming the hurdles of returning to form has been challenging.
While progress has been visible, consistency remains elusive. Currently ranked 44th in the International Series Order of Merit, Koepka still has a long way to go to regain one of the top two spots necessary for an automatic return to LIV Golf next season. Reflecting on his recent performance, he stated, “It's been a mix; some weeks are solid, but I haven't yet positioned myself to contend for wins. That’s the next milestone for me.”
Though Koepka feels his game has improved, he acknowledges the difficulty in translating decent performances into victories. “I'm not playing poorly—just not well enough to be in contention on Sundays,” he remarked. His immediate objective is to build confidence and find his rhythm prior to the crucial Promotions event in early 2025.
The upcoming LIV Golf Promotions event is anticipated to feature several notable competitors, including Anthony Kim, who is also on a quest for a career revival. Both athletes face limited opportunities to re-enter the LIV Golf League, making this Florida tournament critical for their futures.
Similarly, Anthony Kim, at 40, is striving to return to professional golf. After a 12-year hiatus due to addiction and mental health issues, Kim resumed competition in 2023. Although he faced relegation from LIV Golf in August, he aims to make a comeback through the Promotions event.
Kim emphasizes that part of his journey back involves balancing golf commitments with family. “It’s a long process, and while I want to compete, my family life is essential to this comeback,” he noted. Looking ahead to next year, he intends to participate in select events, focusing on the Asian Tour’s International Series.
Despite the twists and turns in his career, Kim is determined to pursue professional golf. “I'm committed to playing for several more years, although I'm not sure how many,” he stated. His focus is on effort and consistency: “I aim to play my best and work hard, and the outcomes will follow.”
For both Chase Koepka and Anthony Kim, the year 2025 is poised to be transformative. They are both striving to reaffirm their positions among golf's elite after extended absences. The upcoming LIV Golf Promotions event in Florida not only represents a test of their skills but also a testament to their resolve to overcome past challenges and return even stronger.
