In a commanding display at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea triumphed over Barcelona with a 3-0 scoreline in the Champions League group stage. Anticipation was high as young stars Estevao from Chelsea and Lamine Yamal from Barcelona were set to face off, but it was the 18-year-old Estevao who shone brightly. Manager Enzo Maresca advised him to tune out distractions and focus on the match.
The highlight of the evening came shortly after halftime when Estevao received the ball on the right, skillfully dodged two defenders, and launched a stunning strike into the net’s top corner. This marked his 10th goal of the season, drawing loud cheers from the crowd as teammates rushed to celebrate.
Things worsened for Barcelona when they were reduced to ten men after Ronald Araujo, their captain, was sent off just before the interval.
Chelsea maintained their dominance, and in the 73rd minute, Liam Delap, a substitute, scored from close range. Initially flagged for offside, the goal was awarded after a VAR review, further sealing Chelsea’s control of the match.
Chelsea exhibited vigor from the onset. They believed they had an early lead when Enzo Fernandez found the net, but a handball by Wesley Fofana ruled it out. A near-miss followed for Barcelona as Ferran Torres squandered a clear opportunity.
After a period of slow play, Chelsea surged forward again, with Fernandez having another goal disallowed for offside. Subsequently, Pedro Neto fired a shot over the bar before Chelsea’s persistent pressure paid off in the 27th minute.
After a well-executed short corner, confusion in Barcelona’s defense resulted in Jules Kounde inadvertently scoring an own goal, putting Chelsea ahead 1-0 and intensifying the visitors’ challenges.
The game's dynamics shifted just before the break when Araujo received a second yellow card for a foul on Marc Cucurella, leaving Barcelona down a man against a dominant Chelsea side.
With a numerical advantage, Chelsea controlled the match effortlessly. Estevao’s remarkable goal followed by Delap’s composed finish ensured a comfortable victory. Barcelona, despite their illustrious Champions League legacy, struggled to pose a threat and were outplayed.
Chelsea fans playfully taunted Yamal, who had a quiet outing, particularly after Estevao’s spectacular goal. The crowd reacted when Yamal was substituted late in the match.
This victory marks Chelsea's third win in five Champions League matches this season, positioning them strongly for a top-eight finish and direct qualification for the Round of 16.
The club is also showcasing impressive form in the Premier League, currently ranking second as they prepare for a crucial encounter against league leaders Arsenal.
