At least 10 people have died after severe weather, including Typhoon Noul and flash floods, affected several parts of China. The deaths were reported in the northwestern province of Gansu, where sudden heavy rainfall triggered dangerous flash floods.
According to the Xinhua News Agency, 23 people were also injured in the flooding. Emergency teams continued rescue operations as the severe weather created difficult conditions across the region.
Some tourists who were camping became trapped after the flash floods struck. Rescue workers remained on the ground to help those affected and safely evacuate people from dangerous areas.
Authorities have continued search and rescue efforts as weather conditions remain unstable in several locations.
Chinese authorities issued the country's highest-level alert for flash floods after Typhoon Noul brought torrential rainfall to many southern and central regions.
Officials warned that the heavy rain increased the risk of flooding in multiple provinces, prompting emergency measures and public safety warnings.
Typhoon Noul was the strongest typhoon to make landfall in China this year. Before reaching China, the storm had already crossed the Philippines.
Government officials in the Philippines reported that at least three people lost their lives as the typhoon moved through the country.
Although Typhoon Noul weakened into a tropical storm after making landfall along the southern coast of China on Sunday, it continued to bring heavy rainfall and flooding to several regions.
Heavy rainfall also caused mudslides in Jiuzhaigou National Park in southwestern China.
State broadcaster CCTV reported that an unspecified number of tourists were rescued after becoming stranded because of the mudslides.
Jiuzhaigou Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its waterfalls, colourful lakes, pools and snow-covered mountain peaks, was forced to restrict access to several scenic areas. Officials announced that some tourist spots would remain closed due to the ongoing mudslide risk.
Water management and meteorological authorities jointly issued a red warning for additional flash floods expected on Monday.
The warning covered several provinces, including:
Officials urged residents in these areas to remain alert as heavy rainfall continued.
The impact of the storm was especially significant in Guangdong province, where more than 801,000 people had been relocated to safer areas by Sunday, according to the Xinhua News Agency.
The large-scale evacuation was carried out as authorities worked to reduce the risk to people living in flood-prone locations.
The severe weather also disrupted travel in Hong Kong.
Officials said around 350 flights were cancelled on Sunday, leaving about 2,000 passengers stranded at the airport over the weekend.
Authorities also confirmed that at least 21 people were injured as Typhoon Noul swept across the city.
Emergency services continue rescue operations in areas affected by flooding and mudslides as authorities monitor weather conditions across China.
With heavy rainfall expected to continue in several provinces, officials remain focused on public safety, evacuations and ongoing emergency response efforts.
