Incheon, South Korea: Firefighters in South Korea continued battling a massive fire at a Coupang logistics warehouse in Incheon on Monday, marking the third consecutive day of emergency operations as authorities warned of a possible structural collapse.
The blaze, which broke out in the early hours of Saturday, remained uncontained as of 10:30 a.m. Monday, according to the Incheon Fire Headquarters, as reported by Yonhap News Agency.
Emergency crews have faced significant challenges in bringing the fire under control due to the warehouse's large and complex structure and the presence of vast quantities of highly flammable materials stored inside the facility. The intense heat and smoke have complicated firefighting operations, forcing officials to proceed with extreme caution.
Authorities also ordered evacuations in surrounding areas after concerns emerged that parts of the warehouse could collapse as the fire continued to weaken the building's structure. No immediate information was released regarding casualties or injuries.
Firefighting efforts received some assistance on Monday as rainfall helped reduce the intensity of the flames, allowing crews to make gradual progress in containing the blaze.
A fire department official said authorities were optimistic about achieving initial control of the fire later on Monday, although they could not provide a specific timeline for fully extinguishing the flames."We believe it will be possible to bring the fire under initial control sometime today. It is difficult to specify exactly when the fire will be extinguished," the official said.
Officials continue to monitor the situation closely while firefighters remain at the scene to prevent the blaze from spreading further and to minimize the risk of additional structural damage.
