England's opener Zak Crawley has voiced strong confidence in his team’s readiness for the upcoming Ashes Test against Australia, which kicks off next week in Perth. Concerns have been raised regarding England's preparation, following only a single warm-up game against the England Lions at Lilac Hill. Nevertheless, Crawley remains assured of his team’s focus and preparation.
In a recent match, Crawley scored 82 runs off 101 balls, contributing to England’s 426 runs in their first innings against the Lions. This performance not only showcased his form but also affirmed his readiness for the Ashes series. He stressed that personal mindset and preparation are crucial for navigating the challenges of international cricket, even with fewer practice matches.
Crawley remarked on the advantages of their limited tour preparation, noting that it acclimated players to the local weather and conditions, including the pesky flies typical of Western Australia. He is optimistic that such adjustments will play a beneficial role as the Ashes series begins at Perth Stadium, recognized for its vast capacity and lively atmosphere.
The 27-year-old is particularly thrilled to return to Perth, having previously played in the Big Bash League for the Perth Scorchers. With personal connections to the city, including friendships and a former batting coach, this upcoming match holds special significance for him. He referred to Optus Stadium as an “incredible ground” and anticipates a great turnout from English fans supporting the team.
Crawley noted that this Test will mark a significant moment in his career, especially as he missed the chance to play in Perth during the pandemic. He is eager to take the opening position for England in front of a large crowd and aims to seize this opportunity. His focus remains on aiding his team’s success and establishing a strong start to the five-match Ashes series.
In closing, Crawley acknowledged the ongoing debate over preparation time, asserting that the team is mentally and physically in excellent shape. He is committed to executing his role effectively to ensure England’s competitiveness in the series. With just days before the first Ashes Test in Perth, Crawley and his teammates are excited to commence the series on a high note.
