A non-operational cruise vessel tilted sharply to its starboard side while docked in Wenzhou, Zhejiang province, eastern China, after unusually high tides affected the area during Typhoon Bavi.
Videos recorded by eyewitnesses and released on Tuesday, July 14, and Wednesday, July 15, showed people near the waterfront running away as the vessel leaned heavily while remaining at its docking location.
The vessel had previously been converted from a cruise ship into a luxury floating hotel. However, it had remained out of operation and idle for around 14 years before the incident.
Despite no longer serving passengers, the vessel was still docked in Wenzhou when the high tides caused it to roll dramatically onto its side.
According to the vessel's operator, the incident was caused by unusually high tides. The operator said the extreme water levels may have been connected to Typhoon Bavi, which made landfall in eastern China last week.
No additional details were provided regarding damage to the vessel or any reported injuries.
