Delta Planes Collide at New York’s LaGuardia Airport, 1 Injured

Delta Planes Collide at New York’s LaGuardia Airport, 1 Injured

Post by : Rameen Ariff

Two Delta Airlines planes collided on the tarmac at New York’s LaGuardia Airport on Wednesday night, raising new safety concerns at the busy travel hub. The accident happened around 9:56 p.m. local time when the nose of one Delta jet struck the right wing of another while both aircraft were taxiing. The strong impact damaged the cockpit windshield of one plane and caused the other aircraft’s wing to snap off.

One of the planes involved was Delta flight DL5047, which had arrived from Charlotte Douglas International Airport. As the aircraft was taxiing toward its gate, its wing was clipped by another Delta regional jet, resulting in visible damage. Eyewitness videos shared on social media showed flashing emergency lights on the runway as emergency crews rushed to assist passengers.

Authorities confirmed that at least one person was injured in the crash, though further details about the condition of passengers have not been made public. A passenger on board described a loud snapping sound as the wing broke off, causing panic before the plane came to a halt.

So far, Delta Airlines has not released an official statement, but the airline is expected to cooperate fully with investigators. Both aircraft have been taken out of service while inspections and repairs are carried out.

This is not the first safety issue at LaGuardia in recent months. In March, another Delta jet’s wing struck the runway during a landing attempt, prompting a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) investigation. Experts warn that LaGuardia’s congested runways and limited space increase risks for pilots and passengers.

The FAA has already been alerted to this latest incident and is likely to launch a full investigation into whether pilot error, technical failure, or operational lapses led to the collision. Passengers from the affected flights are being rebooked on alternate services while authorities assess the damage.
