Singapore Airlines (SIA) is planning an exciting treat for travelers in mid-2026. The airline will temporarily bring back its Airbus A380 on the Singapore–Hong Kong route for a limited period of five weeks. This move gives passengers a rare chance to experience the airline’s newest premium cabins, including its flagship Suites and 2017 Business Class products, on a short-haul flight.
The flights will run daily between late June and late July 2026, offering passengers the comfort and luxury of the A380 on a four-hour journey.
The temporary A380 operation will replace the usual Boeing 777-300ER on flights SQ892 (Singapore to Hong Kong) and SQ893 (Hong Kong to Singapore).
Duration: 21 June – 25 July 2026
Route: Singapore (SIN) – Hong Kong (HKG)
Flight time: Approximately 4 hours
Frequency: Daily
Outside of this window, the flights will continue to operate using the Boeing 777-300ER, which features older First Class and Business Class seats.
Singapore Airlines will maintain five daily flights on this route during the 2026 northern summer. Most flights will use Airbus A350-900s, with only SQ892/893 upgraded to the A380 for this short period.
Passengers flying on the A380 will enjoy the latest cabin design across all classes:
Suites: Six private Suites on the upper deck for maximum privacy
Business Class: 1-2-1 seat layout for comfort and direct aisle access
Premium Economy: Redesigned with 44 seats for a better travel experience
Additional features include upgraded KrisWorld in-flight entertainment and Wi-Fi access. However, some premium services like caviar, sleeper suits, and amenity kits are not offered on these short flights.
This temporary upgrade gives travelers a chance to enjoy a luxurious experience without booking a long-haul flight to Europe or Australia.
Singapore Airlines’ KrisFlyer members can redeem award miles on these flights, though premium cabins require a high mileage cost:
Economy: 16,500 (Saver) / 30,000 (Advantage)
Premium Economy: 26,500 (Saver)
Business: 34,000 (Saver) / 50,000 (Advantage)
First/Suites: 45,000 (Saver) / 73,000 (Advantage)
Saver awards for Suites are mostly waitlisted, while Advantage awards are more widely available. PPS Club members enjoy additional priority availability.
Despite the A380’s return, overall capacity on the Singapore–Hong Kong route remains below pre-COVID levels:
Five daily flights by Singapore Airlines (down from seven pre-pandemic)
Scoot contribution: One daily Airbus A320 flight (down from three in 2019)
Total weekly seats per direction: 12,383 (about one-third fewer than 2019)
By comparison, Cathay Pacific has restored most of its pre-pandemic services with eight daily flights, including a smaller Airbus A321neo.
The limited A380 deployment shows that while Singapore Airlines is restoring luxury options, overall regional air traffic is still recovering from the pandemic slowdown.
The temporary return of the A380 is a special opportunity for passengers to experience Singapore Airlines’ newest premium cabins on a short flight. It allows travelers to sample luxury without long-haul commitments.
For the airline, this strategy targets peak summer demand and strengthens the appeal of the Singapore–Hong Kong route. It also reinforces Singapore Airlines’ reputation for innovation and luxury in regional travel.
While award redemption costs are high, frequent flyers and premium passengers will appreciate the exclusive chance to fly the superjumbo with the latest suites and seats.
Singapore Airlines’ decision to operate the A380 on its Singapore–Hong Kong route for five weeks in mid-2026 is a rare treat for travelers. Passengers can enjoy the newest Suites and Business Class cabins on a short-haul flight, combining luxury with convenience.
This temporary move also highlights the airline’s commitment to premium travel experiences and responds to summer travel demand, even as overall capacity on the route remains below pre-pandemic levels.
For travelers, it is a unique chance to experience one of the world’s most iconic aircraft without a long-haul journey, making mid-2026 an exciting time for aviation enthusiasts and frequent flyers.
