The Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) has set a new benchmark, surpassing 10,000 active registered firms for the first time in its history during the first half of 2026. This remarkable achievement highlights the increasing global trust in Dubai as a premier destination for finance, innovation, and business, particularly within the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia (MEASA) regions.
By the conclusion of H1 2026, DIFC reported 10,018 active businesses, adding 2,318 new entities in the past 12 months, a substantial 30% organic growth compared to the previous year.
The number of regulated financial firms rose to 1,134, marking a 16% annual increase. These results solidify DIFC's position as the largest and most diverse financial ecosystem in the region, aligning with the Dubai Economic Agenda D33's goal to elevate Dubai among the top four global financial centers.
His Highness Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, First Deputy Ruler of Dubai and President of DIFC, remarked that this milestone signifies the unwavering confidence that global investors and financial institutions have in Dubai.
Under the guidance of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, Dubai continues to strengthen its global economic position and financial infrastructure.
Sheikh Maktoum conveyed that this achievement reflects the confidence of innovators, investors, and financial institutions in DIFC's solid legal and regulatory framework, facilitating regional and international business growth.
He added that this advancement is essential for reaching the goals outlined in the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, which aspires to place Dubai among the four primary financial centers worldwide.
DIFC noted sustained growth across various key financial sectors, with particular emphasis on banking, asset management, insurance, reinsurance, hedge funds, and fintech.
The financial landscape now encompasses:
DIFC continues to host a significant concentration of hedge funds in the region. Since the beginning of 2025, numerous global firms have set up regional offices at DIFC, indicating the center’s growing importance.
The total gross written premiums in the insurance sector reached $4.2 billion in 2025, driven by international markets consolidating their presence within the UAE.
DIFC also climbed to seventh place globally in the Global Financial Centres Index (GFCI), asserting Dubai's leadership as the foremost financial hub in the MEASA region.
His Excellency Essa Kazim, Governor of DIFC, stated that the latest growth reflects the resilience and long-term attractiveness of Dubai’s economy.
He noted that DIFC continues to draw international institutions, investors, and skilled professionals, reinforcing Dubai's prominence as a leading global financial hub.
His Excellency Arif Amiri, CEO of DIFC Authority, highlighted the robust growth across financial sectors, spurred by rising investment and innovation.
He stated that the focus remains on establishing DIFC as the first AI-Native financial center, where artificial intelligence will be integrated into every facet of finance and operations.
DIFC's Innovation Hub continues its rapid expansion, welcoming 361 new companies and increasing the total of AI and FinTech firms to 1,933, signifying a 39% year-on-year growth.
The hub remains committed to supporting entrepreneurs through mentorship and access to investment opportunities.
Earlier this year, DIFC set an ambitious objective of becoming the premier AI-Native financial center by embedding AI into its regulatory and operational frameworks, with the goal of generating $3.5 billion in economic value and creating 25,000 new jobs.
Additionally, DIFC is updating its legal framework to promote responsible innovation, aligning with global standards.
DIFC has further solidified its role as a regional hub for private wealth management, witnessing a 36% year-on-year increase in family-related enterprises, totaling 1,408.
The establishment of foundations also grew by 67%, reaching 1,409.
In support of family enterprises, DIFC launched initiatives like the Family Wealth Centre Expert Advisory Council to promote wealth preservation and succession planning.
The DIFC Academy is committed to workforce development, increasing its educational programs to 144, a 22% rise from 2025.
The Academy focuses on nurturing specialized skills for future growth within the financial services sector.
Demand for office space in DIFC remained robust in H1 2026, exemplified by the pre-leasing of 600,000 square feet in DIFC Square.
