Officials from Dubai Chambers and Premier Alan Winde of South Africa’s Western Cape met to enhance trade and investment ties, exploring new avenues for collaboration.
The focus of the discussions was on fostering economic cooperation and unveiling fresh opportunities for businesses in both regions. Dubai Chambers emphasized the city's integrated business landscape as a key gateway for South African enterprises looking to enter international markets.
Topics covered included Dubai's pivotal role in facilitating international trade that supports cross-border business interactions, thereby unlocking global growth prospects for local companies.
During the meeting, Premier Alan Winde expressed the Western Cape's dedication to strengthening economic ties with Dubai, recognizing mutual benefits for both territories.
Winde indicated that Dubai's strengths in finance, logistics, and tourism align well with the province's objectives for economic advancement and job creation. He noted abundant cooperation potential in sectors such as renewable energy, technology, agri-processing, and infrastructure.
He also pointed out the advantages of the Western Cape from an investor’s perspective, which encompass political stability, modern infrastructure, a skilled labor force, and a proven track record of investment success.
Salem AlShamsi, Executive Vice President of International Relations at Dubai Chambers, attended the meeting and reiterated the organization’s commitment to bolstering economic cooperation with businesses in the Western Cape and South Africa.
AlShamsi stressed the importance of uncovering new opportunities across diverse sectors and enhancing the competitive edge of companies to attract high-quality investments beneficial for both parties.
He added that collaborations among private-sector businesses could open avenues for growth within key industries, promoting new business ventures.
The ongoing trade mission by Dubai’s Chamber of Commerce, which includes a delegation of Dubai businesses, underscores the importance placed on the South African market, which ranked as Dubai's fifth-largest trading partner in Africa last year.
According to AlShamsi, South Africa’s sound economic standing and growth potential render it a crucial ally for Dubai's business landscape. He characterized the Western Cape as a vibrant economic center with distinct strengths in prioritized sectors, particularly the food trade.
The meeting highlighted the mutual commitment to enhancing trade and investment relations while fostering sustainable business partnerships and generating new opportunities for firms in both Dubai and the Western Cape.
These discussions occurred on the sidelines of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce’s trade mission to Cape Town, a part of continuous efforts to support Dubai-based businesses in expanding into the South African market.
