Dubai Customs Enhances GCC Trade via Innovative Logistics System

Dubai Customs Enhances GCC Trade via Innovative Logistics System

Post by : Badri Ariffin

Dubai has bolstered its status as a premier global trade and logistics center by unveiling a comprehensive logistics system that ensures the seamless flow of essential goods to both local and regional markets, despite ongoing global supply chain challenges.

In collaboration with Emirates SkyCargo, the cargo division of Emirates Airline, Dubai Customs has implemented a fully integrated logistics setup at Dubai International Airport Cargo Village and Maktoum International Airport Air Cargo Centre. This initiative aims to streamline cargo operations, expedite customs processes, enhance operational capacity, and secure the supply of necessities such as food and pharmaceuticals across the UAE and the Gulf region.

Cargo Clearance Surges by Over 82%

Operational achievements reflect the initiative's success. The volume of goods cleared through these facilities rose from 26,559,019 kilograms in January 2026 to an impressive 48,259,442 kilograms by May 2026—an increase of over 82%.

The daily cargo handling capacity also saw remarkable growth. The peak daily volume processed climbed from 1,236,537 kilograms in January to 2,106,645 kilograms in May, showcasing the logistics system's capability to meet rising demand while ensuring efficient customs clearance and high service standards.

Support Across GCC Supply Chains

According to Dubai Customs, the benefits of the logistics bridge extend beyond the UAE, helping to sustain supply chain integrity across Gulf Cooperation Council nations.

Between now and May 2026, operations with Emirates SkyCargo included 529 truck logistics trips that transported 2,636 tonnes of essential supplies, highlighting the efficiency of this logistics corridor in delivering crucial shipments to Gulf markets irrespective of evolving regional conditions.

Leadership Emphasizes Dubai’s Vision

His Excellency Abdulla bin Damithan, Chairman of the Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation, remarked that this accomplishment mirrors the long-term vision set forth by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

He highlighted that Dubai’s economic framework is centered on resilience and adaptability, enabling the emirate to transform challenges into opportunities while strengthening its reputation as a reliable global trade hub.

Moving forward, Dubai will continue to enhance cooperation within its maritime, customs, and logistics sectors to bolster readiness for any future changes while ensuring dependable global trade and sustainable supply chains.

Dubai Customs Pursues Digital Advancement

His Excellency Dr. Abdulla Busenad, Director General of Dubai Customs, emphasized that the emirate's success in maintaining trade flow and guaranteeing uninterrupted delivery of essential goods reflects the leadership’s vision and a commitment to building a world-class logistics and economic infrastructure.

He stated that the successful execution of this initiative demonstrates strong collaboration among government entities and strategic partners, confirming Dubai's capability to adapt swiftly to changing conditions without disrupting trade.

Dr. Busenad also affirmed that Dubai Customs will keep enhancing its digital solutions and smart services, in accordance with the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, further reinforcing the UAE’s position as a foremost international gateway for trade.

Smart Initiatives Accelerate Cargo Processing

Dubai Customs implemented several advanced digital initiatives, including the Green Corridor and the Shahin initiative, designed to offer rapid and secure customs clearance pathways for priority shipments.

These initiatives prioritized essential supplies like food and pharmaceuticals. Customs officers worked relentlessly to ensure continuous operations amidst fluctuating regional developments.

Additional measures such as expanded inspection activities and the increased utilization of available cargo terminal space were adopted, which reduced congestion and processed shipments efficiently during high demand periods.

Emirates SkyCargo Celebrates Collaboration

Badr Abbas, Senior Vice President at Emirates SkyCargo, expressed that Dubai has once again showcased its ability to facilitate uninterrupted global trade movement through advanced infrastructure and strong collaborative ties.

He emphasized that the close cooperation amongst Emirates SkyCargo, Dubai Customs, and other government bodies was pivotal in securing the continuous delivery of essential shipments while smoothly accelerating logistics operations to meet local, regional, and global market demands.

Abbas further stated that these results bolster Dubai’s standing as a global air cargo and logistics center, noting that Emirates SkyCargo will persist in investing in innovative technologies to enhance operational capabilities and reinforce global trade mechanisms.
