In a remarkable move to enhance the greenery of the city, Dubai Municipality, in partnership with the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), has kicked off a substantial tree plantation project aimed at planting 20,000 trees across Dubai. This initiative commemorates the 20th anniversary of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum's leadership.
The program was inaugurated at Al Khawaneej's Quranic Garden, with Furjan Dubai stepping in as the community partner. A diverse group of high-ranking Dubai Government officials, students, and community members participated in the planting activities.
Key figures attending the launch included Abdulla Mohammed Al Basti, Secretary-General of the Executive Council of Dubai; Hessa bint Essa Buhumaid, Director General of the Community Development Authority; Abdullah Ali bin Zayed Al-Falasi, Director General of Dubai Government Human Resources; Dr. Alawi Alsheikh Ali, Director General of the Dubai Health Authority; Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, Director General of Dubai Municipality; and Aisha Abdulla Miran, Director General of KHDA, among others.
This initiative aligns with the Urban Environment pillar of the Dubai Quality of Life Strategy 2033, striving to enhance green spaces, revamp urban landscaping, and foster a healthier environment throughout the emirate.
Dubai Municipality will oversee the project, providing a variety of ornamental trees, fruit trees, and shrubs, to be planted in key locations such as Al Barsha South, Al Barsha Pond Park, Nakheel Park in Al Aweer, Al Mizhar Second, Blossoms Park in Nad Al Sheba, Al Safa Park, Umm Suqeim, Al Quoz Pond Park, Al Warqa’a 3, and the Quranic Garden.
To ensure water efficiency, the municipality is adopting smart irrigation systems and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies to facilitate healthy tree growth. Comprehensive maintenance protocols, regular assessments, and a dedicated support hotline will also be established.
KHDA is playing a pivotal role in facilitating school and university participation, distributing saplings and guiding institutions to conduct safe and orderly planting events. Students are motivated to engage actively in fostering environmental stewardship.
Furjan Dubai is also enhancing community involvement, organizing volunteer activities, managing sapling collection points, and using digital platforms to promote events, fostering public interest and participation.
This initiative embodies Sheikh Mohammed's vision of sustainability as a collective duty between the government and society. By planting 20,000 trees in various parks, neighborhoods, and educational institutions, the campaign seeks to create a lasting environmental and social legacy, bolster afforestation efforts, and elevate Dubai's quality of life.
