Dubai Set to Launch Inaugural World Triathlon Women’s Cup in 2025

Dubai Set to Launch Inaugural World Triathlon Women’s Cup in 2025

Post by : Maya Rahman

Dubai is making preparations to host the first-ever 2025 World Triathlon Women’s Cup on December 7, 2025. This momentous event will be held at the stunning Dubai Islands and is being organized in collaboration between the Dubai Sports Council and the UAE Triathlon Federation, alongside oversight from World Triathlon, the sport's global authority.

This competition signifies a landmark achievement for women’s sports in the UAE. It inaugurates the “Sheikha Hind Women’s Sports Campaign,” focused on enhancing female participation in competitive sports and creating pathways for development. The event aligns with Dubai’s broader vision of cultivating an inclusive and motivational sports landscape.

The World Triathlon Women’s Cup is an essential component of the Dubai Sports Sector Strategic Plan 2033, aimed at transforming the emirate into a prime global sports hub. This strategic approach is founded on four key pillars: fostering sports clubs, nurturing new talent, promoting community engagement, and bolstering Dubai’s international sports profile.

The plan encompasses 19 programs and 75 initiatives, projected to contribute around AED 18.3 billion to Dubai's economy by 2033. Hosting significant global sports events such as this triathlon is instrumental to achieve these ambitions.

DP World has been designated the official partner for this historic event, reflecting its commitment to enhancing women's opportunities in sports. Dubai Holding will host the event, while Dubai Sports Channel will provide official broadcasting, ensuring international visibility.

Abdulla Bin Damithan, CEO and Managing Director of DP World GCC, expressed pride in supporting this groundbreaking global competition. He emphasized that the event showcases the potential of sports to foster confidence and create new opportunities for women. He also welcomed global participants and highlighted that Dubai Islands will serve as an inspiring venue for the triathlon.

Organizers have commenced preparations and intensified meetings for effective management. These discussions involve World Triathlon, the UAE Triathlon Federation, Dubai Sports Channel, Dubai Police, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), and Dubai Holding, aiming to ensure a safe and quality environment for all athletes.

The competition will feature three core triathlon disciplines: swimming, cycling, and running across five categories to cater to both professionals and novices.

The elite category is reserved for professional athletes, while a sprint category is set for amateurs, involving 750 metres of swimming, 20 kilometres of cycling, and 5 kilometres of running. For novice and age-group participants, a super-sprint category comprises 400 metres of swimming, 10 kilometres of cycling, and 2.5 kilometres of running.

These categories provide various skill levels the chance to compete while experiencing international sports standards and developing their skills.

This milestone event is viewed as a significant advancement in women's sports development in the region, reflecting Dubai’s commitment to empowering women, broadening sports participation, and fostering inclusivity. Key themes surrounding women’s empowerment, global sports, triathlon challenges, athlete development, and sports innovation are central to its mission.

By hosting the first Women’s Triathlon Cup, Dubai conveys a powerful message that women’s sports merit global recognition, investment, and support, as the city aspires to inspire athletes, attract international competitions, and strengthen its status as a top sports destination worldwide.
