The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has bolstered its collaboration with top-tier Chinese companies and organizations to harness their expertise in artificial intelligence (AI), digital transformation, and advanced transportation technologies. This initiative is pivotal for executing RTA's ongoing and future infrastructure projects, adequately positioning Dubai's transport system for its rapid urban and economic growth.
This development came to light during an official visit from RTA representatives to China, led by His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the RTA Board of Executive Directors. The visit was organized with aid from the Dubai International Chamber’s Shanghai branch and included CEOs, directors, and emerging engineers from various RTA divisions.
During this visit, RTA formalized two significant Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with CASCO SIGNAL LTD. and Huawei Technologies. These agreements are aimed at enhancing collaboration on artificial intelligence applications, smart transport systems, rail technologies, digital infrastructure, and next-generation mobility solutions.
Such partnerships will facilitate knowledge exchange, technical cooperation, and the study of China’s exemplary transport infrastructure practices.
The MoU with CASCO SIGNAL LTD., a company focused on control systems for metro and railway networks, outlines plans for an advanced research and development (R&D) center and innovation lab in Dubai.
This facility will be integrated into the Dubai Metro Blue Line project and further metro advancements, offering a comprehensive environment for system testing, functionality validation, and technical training. Additionally, it will support various system integrations in preparation for new operational projects.
The innovation laboratory will perform local acceptance testing, enhance existing metro lines, and delve into smart operational procedures, maintenance techniques, and AI-driven scheduling to boost asset management and improve the efficiency of the metro network in Dubai.
RTA asserts that this center will fortify Dubai's status as a regional innovation hub in rail and public transport while fostering technology growth and skilled knowledge transfer.
The MoU with Huawei Technologies emphasizes enhancing collaboration in emerging tech areas such as AI, cybersecurity, and future transport innovations.
It includes exchanges of technical insights, collective workshops, trials, and testing of streamlined technology solutions.
Both partners will also develop smart city applications in alignment with Dubai's vision for a 20-Minute City, including unified data systems across transport modalities, AI-driven incident detection, smart operation centers, and bolstered digital infrastructure.
His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer remarked that this visit showcases RTA’s dedication to forming robust international alliances with leading global firms and assimilating best practices from successful public transport models worldwide.
He explained that China's advancement in transport infrastructure and AI underpins their operational brilliance and integrated systems.
Al Tayer emphasized that this opportunity allowed RTA to explore successful models, pinpoint new collaboration avenues, exchange expertise, and adopt global best practices to support Dubai’s ever-evolving transport system.
RTA is keen on establishing enduring partnerships with major Chinese firms for future projects, employing advanced technologies and innovative solutions meeting high standards of quality and sustainability.
These newly signed MoUs highlight RTA’s commitment to embracing AI and forthcoming technologies, enhancing digital infrastructure, and revitalizing metro and rail developments, all aimed at improving operational and customer service standards while reinforcing Dubai’s smart mobility leadership.
Throughout their visit, the RTA delegation engaged in discussions and site visits with several Chinese governmental bodies, institutions, and companies specializing in transport systems, infrastructure, and AI technologies.
The schedule was tailored to bolster cooperation, promote technical knowledge exchange, explore future partnerships, and amplify the involvement of Chinese companies in RTA’s upcoming strategic initiatives.
The delegation visited the Command and Control Centre of the Shanghai Municipal Transportation Commission, where officials elucidated transport operations in the metropolis of over 24 million residents.
They explored how various transport systems, including metro, buses, taxis, and freight transport, coordinate to manage extensive urban mobility.
RTA's officers also investigated urban planning strategies at the Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Planning and Natural Resources, focusing on the 15-minute city concept aimed at enhancing the quality of life by promoting sustainable transportation and diminishing reliance on private vehicles.
The delegation rode the Shanghai Maglev, known for being among the world's fastest commercial train services, analyzing the pioneering technologies behind its operation and management, providing insights into futuristic rail technologies that could shape Dubai's public transport roadmap.
RTA officials also inspected significant road, tunnel, and bridge projects to study cutting-edge engineering approaches and technical advancements beneficial for Dubai’s forthcoming developments.
The delegation also visited the Hongqiao Integrated Transport Hub, regarded as a pinnacle of multimodal transport integration, to glean insights into effective transport hub designs and urban development strategies.
The program culminated with visits to leading Chinese firms in metro systems, AI, predictive maintenance, smart logistics, and advanced control systems, complementing RTA’s endeavors to bring next-generation tech to Dubai's transport landscape.
