This Saturday marks the beginning of the 2025 Dubai International Baja, welcoming elite off-road teams to the Dubai Festival City Mall for the exciting event. Final touches are being made at the Service Park as drivers and teams prepare for one of the most awaited weekends in the FIA and FIM World Cup schedules.
Participants this year will face intense competition from both seasoned World Cup teams and impressive one-off entries. Argentine driver Juan Cruz Yacopini, who leads the FIA Bajas World Cup this season, is vying for his fifth win out of seven. Expected challengers include US racer Seth Quintero and Australian motocross icon Toby Price.
Though not all Dakar legends are racing for World Cup points, they are sure to draw attention. Toyota Gazoo Racing will feature two Hilux vehicles, emphasizing the competitive essence and widespread appeal of the Dubai International Baja.
The event’s ninth edition ensures a spectator-friendly atmosphere, highlighted by the Hatta Prologue kick-off, followed by a new viewing area in Al Marmoom over the weekend. The picturesque Hatta region, with its rugged terrain and rocky landscapes, promises a captivating backdrop. Nearly 100 crews from more than 30 nations will participate, highlighting the global nature of the competition.
Local talent is also shining, with Mohammed Al Balooshi leading the motorcycle category as he aims to excel at his home race. The FIM World Cup contender has previously won the Dubai Baja twice and aspires to clinch a third world title. In the quad division, UAE’s Abdulaziz Ahli aims for a third consecutive victory after securing wins in the previous two seasons.
Returning seasoned competitors include Czech racer Martin Prokop and Saudi Arabia’s Dania Akeel, both bringing substantial experience to the lineup. In an exciting twist, this year features the debut of the Defender project, showcasing two vehicles in Dubai in preparation for the 2026 FIA World Rally-Raid Championship. Attendees can expect to catch glimpses of these vehicles at the Service Park, the Hatta Prologue, and in the Al Marmoom viewing area.
At a pre-event press conference, Mahir Badri, CEO of EMSO, remarked, “The Dubai International Baja has evolved into a premier event thanks to the efforts of everyone involved. Our entry list reflects a phenomenal blend of international, regional, and local talent.”
He acknowledged the media's role, stating that over 100 TV channels will cover the Dubai International Baja daily, giving fans worldwide access to the thrilling off-road action.
With elite drivers, talented local participants, and Dakar stars, accompanied by innovations like the Defender project, the 2025 Dubai International Baja promises an electrifying and memorable experience for all involved. The challenging terrain, competitive spirit, and global spotlight make this edition one of the most awaited highlights in off-road motorsport.
