EU hosts Palestine peace talks in Brussels

EU hosts Palestine peace talks in Brussels

Post by : Shakul

Leaders and representatives from more than 60 countries gathered in Brussels as the European Union hosted high-level talks with Palestinian Prime Minister Mohamed Mustafa aimed at restoring stability and pursuing long-term peace in Gaza and the West Bank.

The conference comes amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, with ongoing violence in Gaza and increased military activity in the West Bank complicating diplomatic efforts. Despite global focus shifting toward broader regional conflicts, European leaders stressed the urgency of addressing the Palestinian issue.

Belgium’s Foreign Minister Maxime Prévot, who co-hosted the event alongside EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas, acknowledged that achieving a two-state solution is becoming increasingly difficult but remains the only viable path to lasting peace.

“The reality is becoming more complex each day, but abandoning the two-state solution is not an option,” Prévot stated, reaffirming support from European and Arab partners.

The EU, which remains the largest financial supporter of the Palestinian Authority led by Mahmoud Abbas, is seeking a stronger diplomatic role in the region. While the bloc has not joined initiatives led by Donald Trump, it continues to emphasize multilateral cooperation through global institutions.

During the conference, Prime Minister Mustafa outlined a vision for unified governance in Gaza, calling for “one state, one government, one law,” along with the disarmament of armed groups and a full Israeli withdrawal from the territory.

The talks also come amid growing humanitarian concerns in Gaza and increased scrutiny of Israel’s policies in the West Bank, including settlement expansion and movement restrictions. Some EU members are now considering stronger measures, including sanctions on Israeli settlers.

Observers say the meeting reflects Europe’s intent to remain a key diplomatic player and prevent further destabilization in a region critical to global security.
