Dubai: Explosions were reported across Dubai on Saturday, triggering temporary disruption of flight operations at Dubai International Airport, one of the busiest airports in the world. Authorities activated air defence systems after the blasts were heard, while passengers waiting for flights were moved to underground train tunnels at the airport as a precaution.
Witnesses reported hearing loud explosions followed by smoke rising near the airport area. Videos circulating on social media also showed smoke clouds above parts of the city. According to aviation tracking data, several flights experienced delays of 60 to 90 minutes, and some aircraft avoided flying over Dubai’s airspace during the alert.
Airline Emirates initially announced that flights to and from Dubai were suspended temporarily, advising travellers to confirm schedules with their airlines before heading to the airport. Later, some operations gradually resumed, though authorities warned passengers to check updates due to possible disruptions.
Dubai’s government media office later clarified that no major incident occurred at the airport and reported that no serious injuries were recorded. Officials said a minor incident involving falling debris had taken place in the city.
The explosions were reported as tensions in the Middle East conflict involving Iran and Israel intensified. The conflict entered its eighth day with missile exchanges and drone attacks reported across the region. Earlier incidents linked to the conflict had also damaged parts of Dubai’s airport infrastructure and caused fires in the city.
The escalating regional tensions have raised concerns about aviation safety and security across Gulf airspace, with airlines closely monitoring developments and adjusting routes where necessary.
