Filmmaker and choreographer Farah Khan recently shared insights into the early obstacles she faced in her marriage with Shirish Kunder, highlighting how their differing personalities led to disagreements during their initial years together.
Having married Shirish in 2004, Farah opened up during an episode of Sania Mirza's podcast. She recounted a significant issue that arose when she insisted Shirish join her at social functions.
“People often overlooked him and focused solely on me due to my greater success at that time. This made him uneasy,” Farah explained. She noted, “The world has many who tend to spotlight the more successful individual, leading to discomfort for both of us. We eventually decided that if certain outings made him uncomfortable, he could skip them. His happiness and peace are my priorities.”
Farah also discussed her preference for privacy regarding her personal life, stating, “We feel secure in our relationship and don’t need to display affection publicly. Ironically, I sometimes feel that those who flaunt their intimacy on the red carpet might be hiding something beneath the surface.”
The couple first met in the early 2000s when Shirish edited her directorial debut, Main Hoon Na. They have since collaborated on projects such as Jaan-E-Mann, Om Shanti Om, and Tees Maar Khan. After marrying, they became parents to triplets—Diva, Anya, and Czar—in 2008. Despite their prominent careers, Farah is selective about sharing glimpses of her family life, preferring to maintain a low profile.
Farah last directed a film in 2014, titled Happy New Year. Recently, she has taken on the role of host for Celebrity MasterChef while successfully maintaining a YouTube channel that features cooking videos alongside chef Dileep.
