Star Players Likely to Miss Out on the 2026 World Cup

As anticipation builds for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, disappointment looms for fans with the potential absence of notable stars. Various athletes may be sidelined due to injuries, fitness concerns, or their teams’ failure to qualify for the prestigious event.

A significant name expected to miss the tournament is Brazil's Rodrygo, who is recovering from a severe ACL injury sustained earlier this year. As a key figure for his national team, Rodrygo's absence is a major blow to Brazil's hopes. Similarly, defender Eder Militao also faces exclusion following a serious hamstring injury requiring surgery. Young prospect Estevao has been ruled out due to injury issues during the club season.

In the Netherlands camp, midfielder Xavi Simons is facing a substantial setback with an ACL injury incurred while playing with Tottenham Hotspur. His premature exit from the season has raised alarms for Dutch coach Ronald Koeman, who is also concerned about the fitness of Jurrien Timber.

Germany's lineup may lack winger Serge Gnabry due to a torn adductor muscle, while goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen is still recovering from injuries, casting doubt on his participation. The German team is under pressure as the tournament approaches.

On Spain's side, young midfielder Fermin Lopez has confirmed his absence following foot surgery, while Lamine Yamal's hamstring injury raises hopes and concerns about his recovery.

For France, striker Hugo Ekitike is anticipated to miss the competition due to a significant Achilles tendon injury, which typically requires long recovery times.

Beyond injuries, several notable players will not appear due to their teams failing to qualify. Gianluigi Donnarumma and Sandro Tonali from Italy highlight this disappointment, alongside others like Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Bryan Mbeumo.

With injuries again becoming a major issue leading up to this renowned tournament, experts point to the intensive club schedule and travel as key factors behind the rising injury rates. Many players are desperately working to recover ahead of the competition starting in June 2026.

Despite these hurdles, the 2026 FIFA World Cup is still set to showcase an array of footballing talent, eagerly drawing millions of supporters worldwide. Fans remain hopeful that those injured will return stronger for future international events.
