Four big private companies want to build a huge power plant in Pirpainti, a place in the Bhagalpur district, of Bihar. This power plant will produce 2,400 megawatts of electricity and will be the biggest private energy project in Bihar so far.

The companies that have shown interest are Adani Power, JSW Energy, Torrent Power, and Bajaj Group’s Lalitpur Power. They have all applied to build the plant, which will cost around ₹28,000 crore.

The plan is to set up three units of 800 megawatts each on about 1,200 acres of land that the Bihar government has already prepared. A government company called BSPGCL is handling the bidding process. The last date to submit financial offers is July 11, and the winner will be announced on July 16. The final agreement with the winning company will be given within a month after that.

The land will be given to the company at a low rent so that electricity can be sold at cheaper prices. Coal for the plant will come from mines nearby, and water will be taken from the Ganga River.

The electricity from this plant will go mainly to Bihar’s two power distribution companies. Any extra electricity can be sold in the open market. This project will help Bihar get more stable and reliable power for homes, businesses, and farms. It is also expected to support the state’s economic development.

A company from Mumbai has been hired to help manage the bidding process and offer expert advice.
