Gaza experienced a deadly escalation on October 29, 2025, when Israeli air raids struck multiple locations, killing at least 50 people — among them 22 children — and injuring roughly 200, according to Gaza’s civil defence agency. The attacks devastated families and left many communities in shock.
Mahmud Bassal, a spokesperson for Gaza’s civil defence, called the events "catastrophic and terrifying," saying the strikes breached the existing ceasefire. Medical facilities have been inundated with casualties, and emergency teams are struggling to respond to the scale of needs.
The Israeli military said its operations targeted 30 militant commanders across Gaza, asserting the strikes aimed to neutralise perceived threats. Nonetheless, the operation’s human cost has been heavy, with numerous women and children among the dead and wounded.
International agencies and observers voiced deep concern over the renewed violence, warning that continued military action risks further destabilising the territory and deepening the humanitarian emergency.
Residents in the affected districts are reporting shortages of medical supplies, safe drinking water and food, compounding already dire living conditions. Aid organisations are urging immediate assistance to support the injured and displaced.
The deaths on October 29 mark one of the most lethal single days in Gaza this year, highlighting urgent questions about the protection of civilians during ongoing operations. Tensions remain high, with fears of further escalation and a worsening humanitarian situation.
