In a pivotal announcement, U.S. President Donald Trump revealed that his “Board of Peace” has finalized an agreement focused on the disarmament of Hamas and other militant factions in Gaza. Described by Trump as a crucial advancement in his 20-point Gaza peace strategy, this initiative aims to conclude the persistent Israel-Hamas conflict.
Trump broadcasted the update on Truth Social, outlining that the disarmament would occur in a staggered manner, coinciding with a gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from the region.
The initiative additionally outlines the introduction of an International Stabilization Force to collaborate with a newly established Palestinian police unit, tasked with upholding peace and order throughout Gaza.
During his announcement, Trump extended gratitude to influential mediators such as Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey for facilitating the discussions. He expressed optimism that this agreement would lay the groundwork for a new Palestinian governance structure committed to improving the lives of Gaza's residents.
“This agreement represents a significant milestone toward establishing a new Palestinian government that will ally with the Board of Peace to serve the Palestinian populace,” Trump remarked.
He also assured that the framework would prioritize Israel’s security, indicating that the nation would receive the guarantees it has sought throughout the ongoing hostilities.
Earlier on Thursday, reports emerged that negotiations in Cairo between international mediators and Hamas participants have shown encouraging signs regarding a U.S.-supported Gaza peace plan.
Sources indicated that the discussions marked a rare moment of progress after prolonged conflict and diplomatic endeavors. However, some Israeli officials noted that certain proposed conditions remain under debate.
The talks aim to outline a sustainable resolution that incorporates security protocols, governance frameworks, and reconstruction strategies for Gaza following the conflict.
Despite positive diplomatic strides, violence persisted in Gaza, with Palestinian health officials reporting that Israeli airstrikes on Thursday resulted in the deaths of at least six individuals, including two minors.
These ongoing hostilities present significant challenges for negotiators as they strive to transition from dialogue to a functional ceasefire and the actualization of peace agreements.
The viability of the Gaza disarmament agreement is contingent on various elements, including Hamas' collaboration, Israel’s response, the involvement of international forces, and the establishment of a new governance format in Gaza.
While the announcement is hailed as a potential breakthrough in diplomacy, all parties involved are expected to engage in further discussions before the plan can be fully realized.
