At least three people were killed in an overnight airstrike in the Gaza Strip, according to local authorities, as tensions continue despite an ongoing ceasefire. The incident highlights the fragile situation in the region, where violence has persisted even after agreements to halt hostilities.
The strike reportedly took place near Al-Zaqzouq junction in the Al-Amal neighborhood, northwest of Khan Younis. Gaza’s civil defence agency confirmed the deaths, stating that the attack occurred around midnight and caused immediate casualties in the area.
Witnesses and journalists reported seeing Israeli warplanes flying over the region following the strike, indicating continued military activity. The incident has raised fresh concerns about the stability of the ceasefire and the risk of further escalation.
The ceasefire, which came into effect on October 10, was meant to bring an end to the conflict between Israel and Hamas after nearly two years of intense fighting. However, both sides have repeatedly accused each other of violating the agreement.
According to Gaza’s health authorities, more than 770 Palestinians have been killed since the ceasefire began. These figures, though difficult to independently verify due to restricted access, are considered credible by international observers including the United Nations.
On the other side, the Israeli military has reported the deaths of five of its soldiers in Gaza since the truce started. The continued casualties on both sides underline the ongoing risks despite the ceasefire in place.
Limited media access and restrictions in Gaza have made independent verification of events challenging, leaving much of the situation dependent on official statements and local sources. The developments reflect the continuing volatility in the region and the uncertain future of the ceasefire.
