Germany Outlaws Muslim Interaktiv as Authorities Expand Probes into Islamist Networks

Germany Outlaws Muslim Interaktiv as Authorities Expand Probes into Islamist Networks

Post by : Rameen Ariff

German authorities have outlawed the organisation Muslim Interaktiv, saying it threatened democratic norms, the constitution and human rights. Officials also carried out inquiries and search operations targeting two other groups, Generation Islam and Reality Islam, in multiple federal states.

The Interior Ministry concluded that Muslim Interaktiv spread antisemitic content and promoted discrimination against women and LGBTQ+ people while advocating for religious law to supersede Germany’s legal order. Investigators say the group used social platforms to reach and radicalise young Muslims who feel marginalised in a largely Christian society.

Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt framed the measure as part of a strict enforcement policy, saying the government will deploy the full range of legal tools against those who call for a caliphate, stoke hatred of Jewish people, or erode the rights of women and minorities.

Law enforcement carried out coordinated searches at seven sites in Hamburg, 12 in Berlin and several addresses in Hesse. Hamburg’s interior minister, Andy Grote, described the ban as a strong response to what he called “modern TikTok Islamism,” pointing to the group’s use of short-form online content to manipulate young audiences.

Anti-extremism campaigners welcomed the step. Ahmad Mansour, known for his work countering Islamist radicalisation, endorsed the ban as timely, warning that Muslim Interaktiv had become more confrontational and effective at mobilising youth through intimidation and digital propaganda.

Officials said the move forms part of Germany’s wider effort to counter violent and non-violent extremism after a string of attacks and plots linked to both far-right and Islamist actors. Authorities stressed the need to defend democratic values, gender equality and minority protections from radical influences.

Following the ban, the organisation’s websites and social accounts were reportedly taken offline. No spokespeople for the groups were reachable for comment.
