In an exhilarating matchup on Tuesday night in St. Paul, Minnesota, Collin Graf clinched a thrilling overtime victory for the San Jose Sharks, defeating the Minnesota Wild 2-1. Graf's decisive goal came just 2:40 into the extra period, propelling San Jose to their fourth straight victory, a significant milestone for the rebuilding team.
Rookie sensation Macklin Celebrini played a pivotal role, assisting on both goals, including the game-winner by Graf. Displaying remarkable patience and skill, Celebrini maneuvered into the Wild's zone before threading an impeccable pass through Minnesota defenseman Jonas Brodin’s legs, setting up Graf to score past goaltender Filip Gustavsson before he could react. This moment showcased Celebrini's exceptional vision for a player so young.
This win represents a pivotal improvement for the Sharks, who have demonstrated resilience and progress in recent games. Strong defensive efforts, coupled with better goaltending and power-play executions, have contributed to their newfound success. Head coach Ryan Warsofsky commended the team for its determination and ability to manage tight matches effectively.
Goalkeeper Yaroslav Askarov stood out for the Sharks, making 28 saves on 29 shots. San Jose equalized late in the third period during a power play. With 8:03 left, Celebrini found Will Smith in the crease, who expertly redirected the puck into the net for his seventh of the season, showcasing the Sharks' improved puck movement down the stretch.
Both teams played disciplined hockey, limiting high-risk scoring opportunities. Despite Minnesota outshooting San Jose 29-18, the Sharks made their shots count. The Wild struggled on the power play, converting only once in four attempts, while the Sharks scored one goal out of three chances, ensuring the game remained tied at the end of regulation.
In overtime, the Sharks wasted no time, with Celebrini and Graf executing a flawless 2-on-1 rush. Graf’s goal — his fifth this season — finalized the victory and sparked a celebratory response from the Sharks' bench, reflecting their growing confidence in critical moments.
With this defeat, the Minnesota Wild's two-game winning streak came to an end. Despite solid contributions from Boldy and Gustavsson, the team struggled to find offensive momentum outside of the power play. The Wild will aim to regroup as they seek consistency in the fiercely competitive Western Conference.
