Gua Musang, Kelantan, Malaysia — A 19‑year‑old Orang Asli man was injured in a bear attack on February 23, 2026, while foraging for herbs in a forest near Kampung Guh, Pos Tohoi.
The victim, Asmir Alang, was in the forest with five friends when they encountered two bears, believed to include a mother bear with a cub. Startled, Asmir climbed a tree, but one of the bears attacked him, biting his right leg and left hand.
Responding quickly, his friends struck the bear with branches, causing it to flee with its cub. Asmir was first taken to the Kuala Betis Health Clinic for initial treatment before being transferred to the Emergency Unit at Gua Musang Hospital for further medical care.
Local police confirmed they received the report late at night and that a report has also been lodged with the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) as part of an ongoing investigation into the incident.
According to his uncle, the group had travelled by motorcycle into the forest that morning to collect herbs and forest produce for his ailing mother. Residents coming across a Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) vehicle helped transport Asmir to the clinic.
