In a nail-biting double-overtime clash, the Los Angeles Clippers triumphed over the Dallas Mavericks with a score of 133-127, marking the end of their six-game losing streak in the NBA Cup. James Harden shone brightly, delivering a remarkable performance that featured 41 points, 14 rebounds, and 11 assists—his 82nd career triple-double and eighth with the Clippers.
Harden's tireless effort spanned 51 minutes, including critical points during the second overtime that helped the Clippers regain control. His scoring prowess and playmaking were pivotal, making him the central figure in this hard-earned victory, contributing significantly to the franchise's winning momentum in West Group B.
Supporting Harden were Ivica Zubac, who scored a season-high 27 points alongside 11 rebounds, and Bogdan Bogdanovic, who contributed 21 points with timely shots to sustain the Clippers' lead. Derrick Jones Jr. added 15 points, sealing the match with crucial late-game free throws.
The Mavericks kept the pressure on, with D’Angelo Russell and Naji Marshall each recording 28 points, applying intense competitiveness throughout the game. Russell’s late-game surge was vital in pushing the game into overtime, and rookie Cooper Flagg made a clutch layup that forced the first overtime period.
As the match progressed into the second overtime, both teams exhibited fatigue but remained relentless. Turner and Jones continued to battle, while Harden took charge early, contributing to a decisive 10-4 run that secured the Clippers' win following nearly 60 minutes of fierce basketball.
Earlier, Harden energized the team with an 18-2 scoring surge in the second quarter, establishing a lead that propelled the Clippers into halftime with a 62-55 advantage. Despite Dallas's resilience, Harden's early scoring kept the Clippers steady amid the Mavericks' late-game charge.
Dallas welcomed back center Dereck Lively II after a nine-game absence due to a knee injury, who added four points and five rebounds in 17 minutes. However, his presence couldn't counterbalance Harden's exceptional display.
With this victory, the Clippers improved to 2-0 in Group B, solidifying their position at the top of the standings, while Dallas faced a challenging road ahead at 0-2 in the NBA Cup. This win may serve as a pivotal moment for the Clippers as they aim to regain their competitive edge.
