A special art exhibition is opening in Hong Kong, showing about 90 amazing items like carpets, ceramics, and old books from the Islamic world. These pieces were made between the 10th and 19th centuries and come from places like Iran, Turkey, and India. The show is called “Wonders of Imperial Carpets: Masterpieces from the Museum of Islamic Art, Doha” and will run from June 18 to October 6, 2025.
This is the first big exhibition of Islamic art in Hong Kong. Many of the objects have never been seen outside of Qatar before. Visitors will see beautiful carpets that once belonged to kings and sultans, including a huge 16-meter-long carpet made for a palace in Hyderabad, India. There are also ceramics, metalwork, and handwritten books that show how the Islamic world and China shared ideas and art styles over hundreds of years.
The exhibition is divided into sections, each focusing on a different empire: the Safavid dynasty from Iran, the Mughal dynasty from India, and the Ottoman dynasty from Turkey. It also explains how trade and travel helped these cultures learn from each other and from China.
People can read about the exhibits in several languages, including Arabic, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, and English, using QR codes. The show is not about religion, but about how art connects different cultures. Organizers hope many people, including Hong Kong’s Muslim community, will come to learn and enjoy the exhibition.
Tickets cost HK$150 for adults and HK$75 for students and seniors. The museum expects up to 100,000 visitors during the exhibition.
