A massive fire broke out at Wang Fuk Court, a large residential complex in Hong Kong's northern Tai Po district, on Wednesday afternoon. The fire started around 2:51 p.m. local time and quickly escalated, leading authorities to issue a No. 4 alarm by 3:34 p.m. as firefighters rushed to control the blaze.
Wang Fuk Court consists of eight blocks and houses nearly 2,000 residents. Thick grey smoke poured from the affected building, making it difficult for nearby residents and emergency teams. The fire spread rapidly, causing panic and chaos among the people living in the complex.
Several residents were trapped inside the burning building, according to local police reports. Rescue teams worked urgently to evacuate those caught in the fire. At least one man suffered serious burns and was rushed to the hospital for medical treatment. Emergency responders continue to search for anyone else who might be trapped.
Adding to the challenge, several nearby towers around the burning building were covered with bamboo scaffolding, which made the firefighting operation more difficult. Firefighters faced tough conditions as they battled the flames and tried to prevent the fire from spreading to adjacent buildings.
The cause of the fire is not yet known, and officials are investigating the incident. The local fire department and police are coordinating efforts to ensure the safety of all residents and to bring the situation under control as soon as possible.
This tragic event has raised concerns about fire safety in densely populated housing areas in Hong Kong. Authorities have urged residents to stay calm and cooperate with rescue efforts, while also reminding the public about the importance of fire prevention and emergency preparedness.
Overall, the fire at Wang Fuk Court has caused significant damage and distress for many families, but rescue teams remain active in their efforts to save lives and control the blaze.
