The planned tour of India by the Bangladesh women’s cricket team, which was set to include three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and three T20Is in December, has been put on hold indefinitely. A representative of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed to ESPNcricinfo that they received a letter from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) regarding the need to reschedule the series.
While no official explanation for the delay was given, sources indicate that political tensions between India and Bangladesh significantly influenced this decision.
This series was part of the International Cricket Council (ICC)’s Future Tours Programme and was intended to be India’s final series before the 2026 Women’s Premier League (WPL) season. For Bangladesh, it was a chance to advance in the Women’s ODI Championship and gain important competitive experience ahead of major tournaments.
The matches were initially planned to take place in Kolkata and Cuttack, with the ODIs providing both teams an opportunity to evaluate their squads in anticipation of future international encounters.
Earlier this year, the Indian men’s team had a white-ball tour of Bangladesh that was scheduled for August 2025, which was also postponed. That series will now take place in September 2026 after discussions between the respective boards. The decision took into account the international cricketing obligations of both teams and aimed for scheduling convenience.
The BCCI had commented at that time, “This decision was reached following discussions among the boards, considering international commitments and the scheduling needs of both teams. The BCB is eager to host India in September 2026 for this much-anticipated series, with new dates to be shared in time.”
The postponement impacts the preparations and practice for both teams as they gear up for upcoming major tournaments. India was set to use this series as a warm-up for the WPL, while Bangladesh was looking forward to facing a strong opponent in challenging conditions, which could have affected their ranking and future ICC performance.
Although the postponement is disappointing, both boards remain dedicated to rescheduling the series for a suitable time. Players from both nations are expected to continue their training in anticipation of the newly announced schedule.
Both the Bangladesh Cricket Board and the BCCI have stated that the revised dates for the women’s series will be revealed later. Fans of women's cricket are eager for the announcement, as the matches promised to deliver exciting cricket and foster ties between the cricketing communities of both nations.
While this indefinite delay is an obstacle, it shows careful planning regarding international scheduling and safety. Both teams are now focusing on their upcoming tournaments while preparing for this series in the near future.
