Two Indian nationals were killed and ten others injured on Friday in a drone attack on the Al Awahi Industrial Area in Sohar city, Oman, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed.
The incident marks the first Indian fatalities on land in a West Asian country since the ongoing conflict involving Iran and the United States broke out on February 28.
Officials reported that the industrial hub was struck by drones, with local authorities saying that one drone crashed in the industrial zone, resulting in civilian casualties.
Of the injured, most are Indian expatriates; some have already been discharged from hospital care.
Earlier in the escalation of the West Asia crisis, three Indian sailors were killed in separate attacks on merchant vessels, and one remains missing, bringing the broader toll on Indian nationals to five fatalities so far.
The MEA stated that the Indian mission in Oman is closely coordinating with local authorities and the company employing the victims to provide assistance and ensure medical care for the injured.
This tragic event has amplified concerns about the safety of millions of Indian expatriates living and working across West Asia as hostilities intensify.
