Two Indian-origin brothers have been sentenced in the UK for serious child sex offences. Vruj Patel, 26, received a 22-year prison sentence at Snaresbrook Crown Court, while his brother Kishan Patel was jailed for 15 months for possession of indecent images of children.
The sentences came after a detailed investigation by the Metropolitan Police, who are now appealing for any other potential victims to come forward. Detectives believe there may be more survivors targeted by the brothers.
Detective Sergeant Rob Blant described Vruj Patel as a “cowardly, opportunistic offender” who exploited vulnerable victims for sexual gratification. He added that the Sexual Harm Prevention Order and lifelong sex offender registration will apply to Patel for the rest of his life.
Vruj Patel pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including the rape of a child under 13, assault of a child under 13 by penetration, and causing a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity. He also admitted to raping a woman over 16 and committing sexual assault by penetration on another victim. In addition, he was found guilty of possessing indecent images of children and voyeurism.
Kishan Patel pleaded guilty to making and possessing indecent images of children and will serve a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order along with his jail term.
The investigation began after the Greater Manchester Police alerted the Met Police to videos of child sexual abuse on a device belonging to Kishan Patel. Officers later identified Vruj Patel in the videos through visible features, clothing, and jewellery. Further evidence revealed multiple offences, including the filming of assaults against minors and a young woman.
The Met Police are appealing for any further victims who may have been in the care of the Patels or connected homes to contact them. Victims are encouraged to report online or call 101 quoting “Operation Castline”.
DS Blant praised the investigative team, saying officers are committed to protecting vulnerable people and bringing offenders to justice. Specialist support has been provided to all known victims throughout the investigation and court proceedings.
