Indian Medical Student Dies in Kazakhstan Road Accident

Post by : Meena Ariff

An Indian medical student lost her life and two others were injured in a road accident in eastern Kazakhstan during an excursion trip, according to the Indian Embassy on Tuesday.

The accident involved 11 Indian students from Semey Medical University who were returning from a trip when their vehicle met with a mishap. The incident occurred near Ust-Kamenagorsk, a city located close to the Altai mountain region.

The deceased student has been identified as Mili Mohan, aged 25. Two other students — Ashika Sheejamini Santhosh and Jaseena B — sustained injuries in the accident. Embassy officials confirmed that both injured students are in stable condition and are receiving medical treatment at City Hospital No. 1 in Ust-Kamenagorsk.

In an official statement shared on social media, the Indian Embassy expressed deep sorrow over the loss of life and extended condolences to the bereaved family. The mission stated that it remains in constant contact with the university administration, hospital authorities, and the families of the affected students.

The Embassy further said that family members of the injured students have reached Kazakhstan and are being assisted on the ground. Officials are coordinating closely with local authorities to ensure all necessary medical and logistical support.

Arrangements are also being made to repatriate the mortal remains of the deceased student to India on a priority basis. The Embassy assured that it is providing every possible assistance to the families during this difficult time.

The accident occurred in the broader Altai region, a mountainous area spanning Kazakhstan, Russia, China, and Mongolia, known for its rugged terrain and scenic landscapes. Parts of the region are recognised as UNESCO World Heritage sites due to their ecological and cultural significance.
