Jujhar “Tiger” Singh, a resident of Chamkaur Sahib in Punjab’s Ropar district, has made history by becoming the first Indian to win an international Power Slap championship. On October 24, Singh secured victory in his debut match at the Power Slap event held in Abu Dhabi — a competition officially sanctioned by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.
In a thrilling three-round contest, the 28-year-old fighter — who hails from a humble farming family on the outskirts of Chamkaur Sahib — defeated Russian heavyweight Anatolii “The Kraken” Galushka. His triumph sparked nationwide celebrations, particularly among the Punjabi diaspora worldwide.
The bout began with Galushka dominating the first round through precise and powerful strikes that momentarily put Singh on the back foot. The second round turned brutal when a thunderous slap from the Russian opened a cut near Singh’s right eye. However, displaying trademark Punjabi grit and determination, Singh made an extraordinary comeback in the decisive third round. His accurate and forceful slaps ultimately overwhelmed his seasoned opponent, leading to a unanimous decision victory from the judges.
Singh’s journey to this milestone is one of relentless dedication and perseverance. During his school years, he trained in traditional wrestling and kabaddi in his hometown of Karura near Chamkaur Sahib. Inspired by the rise of mixed martial arts and strength sports, he later joined a local gym to learn modern combat techniques. Eventually, Singh moved to Mohali to pursue a specialized strength and conditioning program.
Despite limited resources, his unwavering discipline earned him admiration from trainers and peers alike. For over a year leading up to his Power Slap debut, Singh followed an intense daily regimen — including dawn strength workouts, hand conditioning, and balance drills essential for mastering control and precision in Power Slap competitions. He also practiced breathing exercises and neck strengthening routines to improve his resilience against incoming strikes.
Singh’s victory not only cements his name in Power Slap history but also serves as an inspiration to countless aspiring athletes across India who dream of making their mark on the global stage.
