Indonesia has announced a reduction in the cost of performing Haj in 2026, lowering the fee by around Rp2 million (approximately RM465) per pilgrim. The move comes despite rising aviation fuel costs and reflects the government’s effort to ease financial pressure on lower-income citizens.
President Prabowo Subianto stated that the decision demonstrates the government’s commitment to supporting the public. The total Haj pilgrimage cost has now been set at approximately Rp87.4 million per pilgrim, following agreement with the national parliament.
In addition to cost reductions, the government has also improved waiting times for Haj applicants. Authorities confirmed that the maximum waiting period, which previously reached up to 48 years, has now been reduced to around 26 years starting in 2026, with further efforts underway to shorten it.
Indonesia is also exploring logistical improvements, including the proposal for a dedicated Haj terminal in Saudi Arabia and a joint aviation partnership to optimize flights. Officials believe these steps will help reduce travel costs, improve efficiency, and provide a smoother experience for pilgrims in the future.
