A massive fire ripped through parts of central Indonesia on Monday, causing widespread destruction and leaving several families displaced. The incident took place in Central Kalimantan province, where flames quickly spread across a densely populated area, engulfing homes and public buildings within a short period of time.
According to preliminary assessments by local authorities, at least 17 buildings were completely destroyed in the blaze. These included residential houses as well as two schools, raising serious concerns about the disruption of education for students in the affected area. Officials confirmed that the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit, which sparked the initial flames before rapidly spreading to nearby structures due to close building proximity.
Firefighters and emergency response teams were immediately deployed to control the blaze and prevent it from spreading further. While the fire has now been brought under control, the damage left behind is significant, with many residents losing their homes and personal belongings.
In response, local authorities have begun relief and rehabilitation efforts. Temporary evacuation shelters are being set up to house displaced families, while public kitchens have been established to provide daily meals. Officials also confirmed that clothing, food supplies, and other essential items are being distributed to those affected by the fire.
The government is also taking steps to minimize the impact on education by identifying alternative locations where students from the damaged schools can continue their studies. Further assessments are currently underway to evaluate the full extent of the losses and to prepare a long-term recovery and rehabilitation plan for the affected community.
