Indonesia has called for an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council after the killing of three Indonesian peacekeepers serving in Lebanon.
The peacekeepers, part of the UNIFIL, were killed in two separate incidents in southern Lebanon during intensified clashes linked to the ongoing conflict between Israeli forces and Hezbollah. Reports indicate that one soldier died after a projectile struck a UN position, while two others were killed when an explosion hit their vehicle.
Indonesia strongly condemned the attacks, describing them as unacceptable and warning that they reflect a rapidly worsening security situation in the region. The country’s foreign minister called for a “swift, thorough and transparent investigation” into the incidents and emphasized that the safety of UN peacekeepers must be guaranteed.
The deaths mark one of the most serious incidents involving UN peacekeepers in recent months and have raised global concern about the risks faced by international forces deployed in conflict zones. The United Nations has also launched its own investigation, noting that deliberate attacks on peacekeepers may constitute violations of international law.
The situation in southern Lebanon has deteriorated amid ongoing military operations and cross-border tensions, placing peacekeeping personnel in increasingly dangerous conditions. Indonesia’s demand for urgent UN action highlights growing international pressure to address the escalating conflict and ensure accountability.
