Dozens Injured in Jakarta Mosque Blast During Friday Prayers

Post by : Rameen Ariff

A significant explosion occurred inside a mosque during Friday prayers in Jakarta, Indonesia, injuring many worshippers. The incident took place within a school complex in the Kelapa Gading district, causing widespread fear among attendees and students in the vicinity.

Authorities reported that at least 54 individuals were hospitalized following the explosion, with injuries ranging from minor to severe, including burns. Jakarta's police chief, Asep Edi Suheri, provided these details during a press briefing.

The police have initiated an extensive investigation into the explosion's origin. Forensic and bomb disposal teams are currently at the scene gathering evidence to ascertain whether a gas leak, electrical malfunction, or another reason caused the blast.

Emergency response teams swiftly arrived, with numerous ambulances deployed to the location. Footage from local news channels showed the mosque surrounded by police tape while rescue teams assisted the victims and secured the area.

Although the mosque sustained some minor damage, debris and char marks were noticed near the prayer area. Witnesses recounted scenes of chaos as attendees fled in fear after the explosion.

Officials have urged the public to stay calm and refrain from sharing unverified information as the investigation unfolds. Coordination between the Jakarta Disaster Management Agency and the Ministry of Religious Affairs is ongoing to provide medical support and relief to those injured.

This incident has left the local community in shock, as Friday prayers generally attract large crowds. Police have committed to providing updates as the investigation progresses.
