Abu Dhabi Partners with ŌURA on Women's Health Research Initiative

Abu Dhabi Partners with ŌURA on Women's Health Research Initiative

Post by : Badri Ariffin

In a progressive move, the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH) has formed a partnership with ŌURA, known for its innovative Oura Ring wearable device, to initiate a groundbreaking research program dedicated to the realm of women’s health and preventive care.

This collaboration seeks to explore how continuous data derived from wearables can enable healthcare providers to identify potential health risks sooner, thereby enhancing personalized medical assistance. This initiative signifies the start of a prolonged alliance that aligns with Abu Dhabi’s objective of establishing a preventive-oriented and data-centric healthcare system.

Initially, the research will emphasize women’s health, concentrating on aspects like preconception care, prenatal health, and cardiometabolic issues, which include obesity, prediabetes, and heart disease.

Merging Abu Dhabi's sophisticated public health system with real-time insights from ŌURA’s technology, experts anticipate gaining a deeper understanding of disease progression over time, thus enabling swifter and more tailored healthcare responses.

His Excellency Mansoor Ibrahim Al Mansoori, the Chairman of the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, stated that the future of healthcare relies on continuously monitoring health trends across populations. He further noted that Abu Dhabi has made strides in advancing an intelligent health ecosystem aimed at driving this transition.

Women’s health and fertility are crucial areas of focus for Abu Dhabi, and the collaboration with ŌURA is projected to enhance care for families by facilitating early risk assessment and tailored health solutions.

Tom Hale, CEO of ŌURA, remarked that Abu Dhabi is emerging as a leading example of how technology can revolutionize preventive care. He highlighted that the partnership is anchored in scientific inquiry, data protection, and aims for sustainable health improvements.

According to Hale, prioritizing women’s health is essential, as healthier women contribute to stronger families and communities. The ultimate ambition is to devise a healthcare framework that can support preventive care methodologies globally.

Ensuring data privacy is paramount; officials asserted that all health information will be securely managed and shared with user consent, in compliance with UAE laws and global standards. All personally identifiable data will be safeguarded under stringent ethical and regulatory guidelines.

The forthcoming phase will entail pilot studies, ethics reviews, and localized medical research, setting the stage for broader integration within Abu Dhabi’s health systems.

Additionally, this agreement represents a significant milestone in ŌURA’s expansion throughout the UAE and Gulf region, as the company seeks to bolster its presence via research collaborations and health innovation initiatives.
