Iran's Ambassador Applauds Pakistan's Role in Mediating US-Iran Dialogues

Iran's Ambassador Applauds Pakistan's Role in Mediating US-Iran Dialogues

Post by : Shweta

Iran’s ambassador in Pakistan, Reza Amiri Moghadam, has expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s role in facilitating discussions between Iran and the United States, noting a “positive trajectory” towards a potential peace deal. His remarks come at a time of heightened diplomatic activity intended to ease tensions in the Middle East amidst prolonged conflict and uncertainty in the region.

The envoy shared his thoughts on social media following a visit from Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, who had extensive talks with senior Iranian officials in Tehran. According to Moghadam, Pakistan’s mediation has fostered cautious optimism regarding the future of ongoing discussions between Tehran and Washington. He emphasized that the success of these negotiations depends on the commitment of the United States to the diplomatic process and how well they adhere to the dialogue objectives.

Moghadam also commended key figures in Pakistan’s leadership, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Army Chief Asim Munir, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, crediting their “sincere efforts” and diplomatic outreach as pivotal to achieving lasting peace and stability in the region.

In recent times, Pakistan has surfaced as a crucial mediator in the ongoing dialogue surrounding the tensions between Iran and the United States. Reports suggest that Islamabad has been hosting confidential discussions and facilitating communication between the two nations during a vulnerable ceasefire period. Pakistani officials have consistently stated their primary objective is to avert a broader regional conflict and revive diplomatic relations between Tehran and Washington.

These peace discussions are intertwined with initiatives to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a pivotal oil shipping artery that has suffered significant interruptions due to military frictions in the Gulf area. Recently, US President Donald Trump mentioned that a preliminary agreement with Iran and the resumption of traffic through the Strait of Hormuz were “largely negotiated,” though certain issues remain to be tackled.

Despite the hopeful signs, significant disparities persist between the two nations. Iran has reportedly sought sanctions relief, security assurances, and acknowledgment of its regional interests, while the United States continues to advocate for restrictions on Iran’s nuclear and missile capabilities. Iranian leaders have warned that trust issues pose a significant barrier in the negotiations, given the history of tensions and military altercations.

International observers suggest that Pakistan’s engagement has been vital in maintaining dialogue between the parties during this challenging time. Other regional countries, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates, are also backing these diplomatic endeavors to prevent another serious conflict in the Middle East. Experts assert that a successful agreement between Iran and the US could enhance regional security, stabilize global oil markets, and mitigate tensions across the Persian Gulf.
