On Monday, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) reported that it has carried out strikes on US military installations in Kuwait, asserting significant damage to critical infrastructure at two prominent airbases.
The IRGC stated that their operations targeted fuel storage tanks and Patriot defense systems at Ali Al-Salem Air Base and a vital FPS radar system at Ahmed Al-Jaber Air Base in Kuwait. This action is framed as part of its ongoing retaliatory efforts against the United States.
The strikes were executed by the IRGC's aerospace forces, labeled as an "eye-for-an-eye" retaliation against recent US military interventions. The IRGC warned that military operations will persist throughout the region.
The spokesperson emphasized Iran's stance against any further US military incursions into the strategically crucial Strait of Hormuz, asserting Tehran's defense of this vital maritime passage.
The Strait of Hormuz is crucial for global energy transportation, facilitating nearly 20% of the world's energy supply. This area has become a flashpoint in the ongoing tensions between the US and Iran.
Kuwait stands as a pivotal ally of the United States, hosting around 13,000 US military personnel. The base facilities at Ali Al-Salem and Ahmed Al-Jaber play crucial roles in US Central Command (CENTCOM) operations and air defense within the region.
In another development reported by Iran's IRNA news agency, the Iranian military claimed that drone assaults targeting US military sites within the region are ongoing.
The Iranian Army described the recent strikes as "destructive drone" missions aimed at US forces in Kuwait, including defense and missile systems.
The army accused the US of launching repeated attacks on Iranian military sites and civilian infrastructure, denouncing these actions as a violation of United Nations principles.
Earlier on the same day, the IRGC stated it had initiated the second phase of its retaliatory operations by targeting facilities at Sheikh Isa Air Base in Bahrain.
The focus of this attack included helicopter maintenance facilities, a hangar for a P-8 aircraft, and a US military drone command center located at the base.
These developments followed fresh US military actions early Monday aimed at diminishing Iran’s capability to threaten commercial maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.
US Central Command (CENTCOM) reported that military operations commenced at 5 PM ET, aiming to degrade Iran's ability to attack civilian vessels traversing this vital waterway.
The US military indicated that these airstrikes were a response to previous assaults on vessels operating in the region.
The current military escalation was triggered by Iran's strike on a commercial vessel passing through the Strait of Hormuz, which led to the crew abandoning the ship after it caught fire.
As the confrontations intensify across West Asia, concerns over maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz grow significantly, impacting global energy markets and escalating fuel costs.
