A QatarEnergy tanker was struck by a cruise missile in Qatar’s territorial waters after Iran launched multiple missiles toward the Gulf state, according to official statements. The incident marks a significant escalation in regional tensions, raising concerns over maritime security in the area.
Qatar’s defence ministry confirmed that three cruise missiles were fired from Iran, of which two were successfully intercepted by the country’s military defence systems. However, the third missile managed to hit a tanker leased to QatarEnergy, causing alarm but no reported casualties.
Authorities quickly coordinated an emergency response to evacuate all 21 crew members onboard the vessel. Officials confirmed that the evacuation was completed safely, and no injuries were reported despite the direct strike on the tanker.
The incident comes amid rising geopolitical tensions in the Gulf region, with increased risks to shipping routes and energy infrastructure. Officials continue to monitor the situation closely as regional security concerns intensify.
