Iran Health Official Claims Minor Injuries for Supreme Leader After U.S.-Israeli Strike

Iran Health Official Claims Minor Injuries for Supreme Leader After U.S.-Israeli Strike

Post by : Shweta

An official from Iran's health department has announced that Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei only incurred “superficial” injuries from U.S.-Israeli airstrikes in late February. This revelation marks one of the first public comments from Iranian officials regarding Khamenei’s health following the attacks that led to the death of several senior Iranian leaders, including his father, former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

According to Hossein Kermanpour, the spokesman for Iran’s Health Ministry, Khamenei received minor injuries affecting his face, head, and legs during the military strikes. He stated that the injuries were not severe and only required primary medical attention, including a few stitches. He further asserted that there were no significant physical injuries or long-term health issues.

This statement emerges amidst ongoing speculation regarding Khamenei's health and whereabouts. Since taking over as Supreme Leader on March 8, Khamenei has not appeared in public and has primarily communicated through written messages. His absence from broadcasting and public appearances has fueled rumors about his condition and capability to lead.

The February airstrikes formed part of a considerable military action carried out by the United States and Israel amid the 2026 Iran conflict. Iranian sources confirmed the death of former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and several top military officials during these strikes, which resulted in severe retaliatory actions from Iran and heightened tensions regionally.

In March, U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth suggested that Mojtaba Khamenei was alive but wounded and possibly disfigured. Iranian officials denied these claims, labeling them as exaggerated and politically driven. The recent announcement from Iran’s Health Ministry seems to be aimed at dispelling international rumors and assuring the public about the Supreme Leader's wellbeing.

International reports indicate that Khamenei continues to govern Iran through secure communications, under strict protection. Sources reveal that authorities have limited his public visibility due to concerns over potential assassination attempts or intelligence operations against the nation’s leadership.

The situation remains pivotal as Iran engages in sensitive negotiations with the United States covering sanctions, nuclear activities, and regional stability. Analysts suggest that uncertainty around the Supreme Leader's health has influenced decision-making in Iran and hindered some diplomatic conversations.

While Iran has issued this latest statement, international inquiries remain regarding Mojtaba Khamenei’s health status and his capability to lead amidst significant military and political challenges. However, Iranian officials continue to assert that their leadership remains stable and fully operational following the deadly strikes earlier this year.
